A arte de fotografar o invisível.

Nesta exposição, Estelle Valente, fotografa francesa de origem e lisboeta por escolha, convida-nos a mergulhar no seu olhar sobre a cena de palco, onde a emoção, a composição e o instinto se sobrepõem ao registo documental.

Durante quase uma década, Estelle acompanhou de perto o trabalho de dezenas de criadores, sobretudo no São Luiz Teatro Municipal, onde foi fotógrafa oficial até 2024. As imagens aqui reunidas resultam desse contacto íntimo com o gesto teatral e coreográfico, e revelam uma profunda afinidade com o universo de encenadores como Marco Martins, Beatriz Batarda, Sandra Faleiro, Ricardo Neves Neves ou ainda Miguel Loureiro; de companhias de teatro como Formiga Atómica ou Teatro Praga; e de coreógrafos como Victor Hugo Pontes, Clara Andermatt ou Olga Roriz.

Mais do que documentar espetáculos, Estelle procura captar aquilo que escapa ao olhar direto: a vibração de um corpo, a sombra de uma emoção, o instante antes ou depois da ação. As suas fotografias muitas vezes desfocam, sobrepõem ou arrastam o tempo, explorando o lado invisível e efémero da cena. Através de múltiplas exposições, ângulos inesperados e um apurado sentido plástico, cria imagens que parecem suspensas — entre realidade e ficção, memória e imaginação.

Em L’Art en Scène, o espectador é convidado a entrar nesse espaço ambíguo, entre o palco e o invisível. A ver, com os olhos da fotógrafa, um outro espetáculo — mais íntimo, mais quieto, mais seu.

In this exhibition, Estelle Valente, a French photographer by origin but from Lisbon by choice, invites us to immerse ourselves in the sensitive universe of stage photography, where emotion, composition and instinct take precedence over documentary recording.

For almost a decade, Estelle has closely followed the work of dozens of creators, especially at the São Luiz Municipal Theatre, where she was the official photographer until 2024. These images are the result of this intimate contact with theatrical and choreographic gesture and reveal a deep affinity with the universe of directors such as Marco Martins, Beatriz Batarda, Sandra Faleiro, Ricardo Neves Neves or Miguel Loureiro; theatre companies such as Formiga Atómica or Teatro Praga; and choreographers such as Victor Hugo Pontes, Clara Andermatt or Olga Roriz.

More than documenting performances, Estelle seeks to capture what escapes the direct eye: the vibration of a body, the shadow of an emotion, the instant before or after the action. Her photographs often blur, overlap or drag time, exploring the invisible and ephemeral side of the scene. Through multiple exposures, unexpected angles and a keen plastic sense, she creates images that seem suspended - between reality and fiction, memory and imagination.

In L'Art en Scène, the viewer is invited to enter this ambiguous space, between the stage and the invisible. To see, through the photographer's eyes, another spectacle - more intimate, quieter, more her own.

Dans cette exposition, Estelle Valente, photographe française d’origine et Lisboète par choix, nous invite à plonger dans son regard sur la scène, où l’émotion, la composition et l’instinct priment sur toute visée documentaire.

Pendant près d’une décennie, Estelle a suivi de près le travail de dizaines de créateurs, notamment au Teatro Municipal São Luiz, où elle a été photographe officielle jusqu’en 2024. Les images rassemblées ici sont le fruit de ce contact intime avec le geste théâtral et chorégraphique, et révèlent une profonde affinité avec l’univers de metteurs en scène tels que Marco Martins, Beatriz Batarda, Sandra Faleiro, Ricardo Neves Neves ou encore Miguel Loureiro ; avec des compagnies comme Formiga Atómica ou Teatro Praga ; ainsi qu’avec des chorégraphes tels que Victor Hugo Pontes, Clara Andermatt ou Olga Roriz.

Plutôt que de documenter des spectacles, Estelle cherche à capturer ce qui échappe au regard direct : la vibration d’un corps, l’ombre d’une émotion, l’instant juste avant ou juste après l’action. Ses photographies, souvent floutées, superposent ou étirent le temps, explorant l’invisible et l’éphémère de la scène. À travers une exposition multiple, des angles inattendus et un sens plastique aigu, elle crée des images qui semblent suspendues — entre réalité et fiction, mémoire et imagination.

Dans L’Art en Scène, le spectateur est invité à entrer dans cet espace ambigu, entre la scène et l’invisible. Voir, avec les yeux de la photographe, un autre spectacle — plus intime, plus tranquille, plus personnel.
